Avis (Brown) Dickey

September 1, 1921 ~ July 21, 2016 (age 94) 94 Years Old

AVIS DICKEY, age 94, of Kendallville, died on Thursday, July 21, 2016 at Lutheran Life Villages in Kendallville.  Mrs. Dickey was born near Kendallville, Indiana on September 1, 1921 to the late James and Amanda (Leitch) Brown.  She married Theodore R. “Ted” Dickey on September 30, 1939 and he preceded her in death December 24, 2002.  Avis was employed as the office manager with the Kendallville Publishing Company for many years.  She wrote many news and feature articles for the Kendallville News-Sun.  She was a member of the South Milford Church of Christ since 1944 and a 50 year Sunday school teacher.  Avis was also a member of the Noble County Art Association.  She was a distinguished member, a Poet of Merit, and recipient of the Outstanding Achievement in Poetry of the International Society of Poets.  In the past, Avis was involved with the LaGrange County Republican Women and Home Demonstration Clubs, the Noble County Prayer Breakfast, and was one of the founders of the South Milford Community Improvement League.  She was also a Chicago Cubs fan.

Survivors include: 
Son, David and Penny Dickey of Kendallville.
Son-in-law, Tom Sipe of South Bend.
4 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Sue Sipe; sisters, Winona Bell and Marceille Rowe; brother, Leo Brown, and half brother, Otto Biddle.

Visitation will be Sunday from 1:00-4:00 pm at Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville.

Funeral services will be Monday, July 25, 2016 at 11:00 am at Hite Funeral Home with visitation an hour prior.

Officiating the funeral service will be Pastor Brian Walter and Pastor Jim Mertz.

Burial will be at South Milford Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to South Milford Church of Christ, Joy Circle.

Active casket bearers will be Mike Dickey, Josh Dickey, Jack Baird, Greg Guthrie, Ed Guthrie, and Josh Davidson.
Honorary bearers will be Preston Townsend, Gary Sipe, Mark Sipe, Eric Sipe, and Moses Davidson.
