Charles Wesley Taner, age 82, died Monday, September 19, 2016 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana.  Mr. Taner was born in Haviland, Ohio on August 18, 1934 to the late Dale Frederick Taner and Bernice H. (Rodman) Taner.  His family moved to the Fort Wayne area in the 1940’s and Charlie graduated from Huntertown High School in 1953.  Shortly after his graduation, he entered the United States Air Force and honorably served his country for four years during the Korean War.  Upon returning from the service, he married Mary Lucille Barrows on February 14, 1960 at the Trinity Church United Methodist in Kendallville.  Charlie started his working career with JC Penny in Fort Wayne where he was a department manager for five years.  He was also employed for many years as a purchasing agent with ITT and Continental Seals.  Later he owned and operated Taner’s Tire Repair in Fort Wayne for several years. He loved playing with his grandchildren, fishing, gardening and being outdoors.

Survivors include:
Wife, Mary Taner of Avilla.
Son, Tom and Jodi Taner of Kendallville.
Son, David and Tamra Taner of Fort Wayne.
Five grandchildren: Phillip Taner, Matthew Taner, and Nathan Taner; Emily and Nicole Taner.
Sister, Janice and William Irmscher of Rome, Georgia.
Sister, Wilma Jean Underwood of Fremont.
Brother, Bernard and Shirley Taner of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Frederick Taner.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 22, 2016 at 1:00 pm at Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville with Pastor Dan Cosentino of Legacy Church officiating.
Visitation will also be on Thursday prior to the funeral service from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm.
Burial with military honors will follow at Lake View Cemetery in Kendallville.
Memorial donations may be made to Legacy Church of Kendallville.
