CHARLES EDWARD KNOTT, 88, a life-long resident of Kendallville, died on Saturday, August 29, 2015, at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Ronda Knott in Broomfield, Colorado.  Mr. Knott was born in Kendallville, Indiana, on May 31, 1927, to Charley D. and Elizabeth Hornett Knott.  He graduated from Kendallville High School in 1945 and entered the United States Navy, serving his country during WWII.  He married Paula Greene on September 3, 1949, in Kendallville.  She preceded him in death on October 15, 2005.

Charlie was a quality control manager with Eagle Picher before retirement.  Prior to his work at Eagle Picher, he was employed by King-Seeley and McCray Refrigerator.  Charlie was also a professional house and sign painter and worked at times with his father, who was also a painter and taught him the trade.

He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post 86 and V.F.W. Post 2749 in Kendallville, American Legion Post 381 in Rome City, and American Legion Post 111 in Louisville, Colorado.

Charlie took great delight in his family and friends, and through his example, he taught everyone who knew him that family and friends are what matter most in life.  He had a positive spirit, which he often expressed in his favorite saying, “Hang in the buggy,” and he had a fun-loving personality, which he displayed in his love of dressing up as all kinds of characters, whether he wore a straw hat with plastic fruit on top or his beloved Budweiser outfit.  Charlie was a generous man who gave his time, talents, and resources to his church and to his military service organizations.  He especially loved the Big Bands, his Polish heritage, and Notre Dame Football.  Plus, he was quite a jitterbug dancer in his day.

Charlie is survived by his children: Claudia and her spouse Laura Galloway, of Bloomington, Indiana; Kevin and his wife Ronda, of Broomfield, Colorado; and Charles and his wife Julie, of Chapin, South Carolina.  Other survivors include his seven grandchildren: Brandi Knott, Kyle Knott, Laura Knott, Chad Knott, Candace Brown, Brandan Knott, and Tyler Knott; and his eight great- grandchildren: Kayli, Davis, Madilynn, Caroline, Alexis, McKenzie, Kody, and Kayl.

Visitation will be Thursday, September 3, 2015 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville with a eulogy at 7:30.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, September 4, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kendallville. Fr. James Stoyle will celebrate the funeral liturgy.

Burial with military honors will be at Lake View Cemetery in Kendallville.  Military honors will be provided by Charlie's honor guard buddies from the Kendallville American Legion, Kendallville V.F.W. and Rome City American Legion.

Pallbearers are Chad Knott, Brandan Knott, Tyler Knott, Kyle Knott, Zach Fraze, Camden Fox, Jay Fox and Kyle Fox.
