I have just recently found out about the passing of Don.  Although I never was able to meet Don in person I 've had the extreme pleasure of doing business with him for the past 3 years.  Don was a man of integrity which hard to find in a business partner these days and more than that Don would make me laugh throughout all of our negotiations a very rare quality in a person when it comes to business and dollars.  I will truly miss Don and our little negotiating sessions but I am honored have had the pleasure of having Don touch my life.  Rest in peace my friend.

My deepest sympathies to Don's family and his many friends on his passing.  I regret that I was out of town at the time of his funeral and, therefore, unable to attend.  I first met Don in the mid-80's when I was the PR Director for Northeastern Center in Kendallville and he was my ad rep for WAWK.  Later I spent 15 years in the radio business myself and often crossed paths with Don.  He was a shining example of how small-town radio can have a major impact on a community!

Dad -
In the past week, when i've been able to sleep, i have dreamed about better times, when we were closer.  I hated that we were so different and truly relished those things (jokes, shared beliefs, music, inside jokes that became tradition - e.g. you always giving me a can of spam for christmas even though you know i wouldn't even eat it if i wasn't a VEGETARIAN!, mutual irritation when someone loudly chomps on gum...) that connected us.  Honestly, i think that there are many ways in which we are very similar...perhaps that's what made our relationship difficult.

I really wish i had a chance to say goodbye in the way that i needed. That was taken away from me and i can never get back.  I'm trying to make peace with that.

I miss you so much.  The person i need to comfort me with this loss, is you.  Knowing that's not possible, i feel lost and alone.

There was something i wanted to tell you today. If you were still here, I probably would have texted it to you - just to piss you off ;)

You were much loved by many and my condolences to all - family, close friends, acquaintances, business associates...

Your heart worked too hard for too long - you used up all the beats you were given in just 60 years! Wow, you've been busy.  I wish you had a break before you left this world.  I hope you are resting now peacefully, now.

If i can ever find some suckah to marry me, i'll tell your grandkids about you. However, I'll have to wait till they are older to tell them most of your story. ;)

I love you, Dad.

Love,
DeeDee

Your loss is shared by many.  I'm recalling all the good natured teasing with all the WAWK guys when I'd call with a request to play a favorite song.  The guys finally gave me a copy of Chariots of Fire!  How Don teased J.C.Dover when he moved from GA and his parting gift from there was a snow shovel!  We shared many interests - Home and Garden Show, Apple Festival Village, county tourism bureau, the beginnings of the Noble County Park Dept.  He was passionately INVOLVED in the community.  And now he is passionately involved in God's world.  How wonderful for him!  The hug between them must have been stupendous!

Cindy and kids,
I am so sorry for your loss.  What a great man Don was. He took me under his guidance and taught me much about radio and being involved in the community.  Don used to take me to the V&A Restaurant when he was spinning records on the weekends there.  He was always keeping a watchful eye and training me to be a better radio announcer.
What a gift he was to the Kendallville/Noble County community with his never-ending energy to build better and stronger than the day before.  As many have said, Don will be sorely missed.  No one will ever come close to doing what he accomplished in everything he did.
God bless you all and give you strength. My heart aches that I cannot be there to celebrate Don's life with you. There are just not enough words...

As a young ad man at Rock 104, Don taught me what it means to be professionally courteous.  This lesson has served me long and well.  Though I didn't see Don too often in recent years, each encounter generated a smile  and another fond memory.  See you on the other side, old friend.

My condolences to Don's family. He was a great guy and, hands down, the best radio partner I ever had (WBTU/Mack & Moore in the Morning).  We used to close every show with this old classic...Happy Trails, my friend. You are forever loved and will be missed.

I worked at the radio station years ago with Don, Mike and Steve.  I remember the good times we always had.  Don, always the jokester, instigated many times by "Stevie".  He always had a smile and was ALWAYS planning something!

Everyone that knows him, knows the effort, time and patience he used to bring a FM station to the community that he loved.

My deepest sympathy to his family and my condolences to the WAWK staff as you work your way through this difficult time.

What a great legacy he has left behind!

Don used to come in the Albion New Era when I worked there and usually had a smile and some wise cracks. In the summer time he'd bring boxes of Buster Bars and Dilly Bars from DQ for the whole building. He was a generous man who will be missed by many. Doing business with him was always interesting. He sure was a go-getter. Rest in peace my friend.

Don and Leah ~ Dave and I want you to know that we are so sorry for your loss and that we are thinking about you.  Your dad was truly a great guy, with the most fun personality, and you are blessed with that same personality.  :)  Dave, i know, will always remember the golf outings with your dad as a team mate, they always had a blast.  Just such a shock that this happened so early in his life.  Treasure all of the memories that you have of your dad, no one can ever take that away from you.  And please know that we are here for you both, if you need anything at all.  Even if it is just to come out and sit by the fire and talk.   :)

Cindy and I would like to express how much we will miss Don.  It will never be the same going into the radio station and not being greeted by his smiling face and well aimed  insult.  Don loved my wife's apple pies and she was going to bake him another one before this happened.
