Duke E. Mullins

DUKE MULLINS, age 84, passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at the Laurels of Dekalb in Butler.  Mr. Mullins was born in Hindman, Kentucky, Knott County on March 16, 1931 to the late Chester and Malverie (Napier) Mullins.  He honorably served his country during the Korean War in the United States Army.  He married Lorena Ritchie on February 20 1948 in Clear Creek, Kentucky.  Lorena just recently passed away on August 27, 2015.  Duke owned and operated Duke's Auto Parts and Sales in Stroh for many years.  He also hauled trailers with Elkin Mobile homes for 12 years.  An avid race car driver, Duke began his racing career in the 1960’s.  He raced at various tracks in the surrounding area.  Duke was the red, white and blue car number 6 car. Duke also loved to play pool with his family and friends.  Duke and his pool team once qualified for a championship in Las Vegas, Nevada and competed at the Riviera hotel and casino.  He enjoyed feeding the birds and had the upmost love for wildlife.  Duke was known for taking in stray cats and dogs and providing them with a safe, loving home.  He especially loved his dog “Misty” and together they would travel  in his motor home. 

Survivors include: 
Daughter, Sharon and Ronald Tuffley of Stroh.
Daughter, Karen and David Smith of Stroh.

He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Arthur Mullins, Arnold Mullins,and Hershel Mullins; and a sister, Ailene Gilbert Mullins

Visitation will be Monday September 21,2015 from 3:00-8:00pm at Hite Funeral Home, Kendallville.

Funeral services will be Tuesday September 22, 2015 at 12:00 noon at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Stroh.

Officiating the funeral service will be Rev. Willie Collins.

Burial will be at Woodruff Cemetery near Wolcottville.

Preferred memorials may be made to Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, Stroh Fire Department, or ARK Animal Shelter of LaGrange.
