ELIZABETH “BETTY” JUANITA (HEINY) MELVIN, age 87, of Kendallville died on Monday, May 18, 2015 at Presence Sacred Heart Home in Avilla.

She was born in Indianapolis on January 12, 1928 to Leo Heiny Sr. and Helen Marie (Behymer) Heiny.

Mrs. Melvin graduated from Warren Central High School in 1946.          

She most recently worked for Major Engineering in Greenwood, Indiana until retiring 2006.  She was a member of the Community Congregational Church in Franklin, Indiana.

Mrs. Melvin was a lifelong Indiana resident spending the last year and a half at the Presence Sacred Heart Home in Avilla.  She was a devoted mother, meticulous bookkeeper, excellent seamstress, euchre player, and had mastered the pressure cooker for all of her meals.  Most importantly there will be no more confusion and all her memories have returned, we will forever miss our sweet Mom.

Survivors include:

Daughter, Teresa (Terry) and David Laur of Kendallville.
Daughter, Karen and John Kolodzej of Nashville, TN.
Four grandchildren: Christopher and Allison Pozezanac of Raleigh, North Carolina; Jennifer and Charles Mavis of Avon, Indiana; Anna Elizabeth Kolodzej of Chicago, Illinois; and Michael Kolodzej of Chicago, Illinois.
Three great grandchildren: Mason Mavis, Megan Mavis and Morgan Mavis all Avon, Indiana.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one sister.

Visitation will be Friday, May 22, 2015 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Hite Funeral Home, 403 South Main Street in Kendallville.

Graveside services will be Saturday, May 23, 2015 at 1:00 PM at Washington Park East Cemetery, 10612 East Washington Street in Indianapolis.

Officiating the funeral service will be Rev. Dan McLaughlin. 

Burial will be at Washington Park East Cemetery in Indianapolis.
