Janice Rose (Freed) Pontius

JANICE ROSE PONTIUS, age 74, of Kendallville died on Monday, February 10, 2014 at Shepherd of the Hill in Kendallville.  Mrs. Pontius was born in Bronson, Michigan on June 12, 1939 to the late Howard Freed and Helen (Randol) Powers.  She married Allen Duwain Pontius on August 31,1956 in Kendallville and he preceded her in death on December 3, 2012.  Janice was a homemaker. She did upholstery work and she worked with Allen at Lake View Cemetery for many years as well.  She ejoyed reading and working crossword puzzles.  She loved going to Florida in the winter and riding their Gold Wing motorcycle across the country.

Survivors include:
Daughter, Tammy Johnson of Syracuse.
Son, Brad and Ralana Pontius of Garrett.
Daughter, Tina Pontius of Springfield, Illinois.
Five grandchildren: Aimee and DeWayne Diehl of Kendallville; Elizabeth Pontius of Garrett; Adam and Megan Pontius of Kendallville; Kayla and Jason Adams of Angola; and Samantha Woollweever and Derek Traster both of South Milford.  
10 great grandchildren.
Brother, Max and Penny Powers of Kendallville.

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Michael Allen Pontius; her sisters, Virginia Walker and Marilyn Eash; and her step father, Max S. Powers.

No funeral services are scheduled at this time.  There will be a graveside funeral service at a later date at Lake View Cemetery and that day and time will be announced later.
