Jean (Ritchie) Sawyer

Jean Sawyer, age 69, of LaGrange, died unexpectedly on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at her residence.  Mrs. Sawyer was born July 16, 1947 in Knott County, Kentucky near Hindman to the late Ernie and Rudell (Owens) Ritchie.  She married Rev. Bill Sawyer on September 21, 1968 in Rome City, Indiana and he preceded her in death on September 29, 2008.  Jean was employed with Viking Van Tops in Middlebury for 22 years before retiring in 2009.  She continued working for a few years at Supreme Corp in Goshen.  She was an active member of the Independent Baptist Church in South Milford for many and loved spending time with her family, gardening, and raising flower gardens.

Survivors include:
Son, David Sawyer of LaGrange.
Son, Charles “Chuck” and Tina Sawyer of Howe.
Daughter, Regina Sawyer of Wolcottville.
Daughter, Naomi and Trinity Adamski of Orland.
Daughters-in-law, Angie Sawyer and Vada Sawyer both of LaGrange. 
16 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren with one on the way.
Sister, Jewell and Rev. Earl Bolen of Kendallville.
Brother, Charles and Rose Ritchie of Stroh.
Brother, Roger and Sue Ritchie of Bronson, Michigan.
She was preceded in death by her sons, Rodney Sawyer (2012) and Charles Edward Sawyer (2014); and two brothers, Dempsey Ritchie and Willard Ritchie.

Visitation will be held Sunday, January 15th from 2:00 – 6:00 PM at Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 16, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Independent Baptist Church in South Milford with Rev. Willie Collins and Rev. Rick Davis officiating.
Burial will follow the service at Woodruff Cemetery in LaGrange County.
