Lewis Franklin Aker, age 87, formerly of Kendallville, and most recently of Avilla, died Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Presence Sacred Heart Home in Avilla. Mr. Aker was born February 19, 1930 in Columbia City, Indiana to the late Reuben T. Aker and Elsa Opal (Watson) Aker. He graduated from Columbia City High School in 1948 and honorably served his country in the United States Army from 1949-1951. He was married to Ruth Elizabeth Collins on June 7, 1975 at the North Christian Church in Fort Wayne and she survives him. Lewis was employed with Indiana Michigan Power Company for his entire career of 40 plus years as a draftsman engineer before retiring in 1992.

Wife, Ruth Aker of Avilla.
Son, Reuben and Marie Aker of Columbia City.
Daughter, Anella Harmyer of Fort Wayne.
Daughter, Ann Glass of Utah.
Son, Frank Aker of Fort Wayne.
Daughter, Brenda and Clem Slone of Kendallville.
Daughter, Mary Beth Chilcote of Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Daughter, Alice Aker of Kendallville.
Daughter, Angie Aker of Kendallville.
15 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Brother, John Reed Aker of South Carolina.
Brother, Joe Aker of South Carolina.
Brother, Max Aker of Springfield, Ohio.
Sister, Erma Aker of Fort Wayne.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Cletus Aker; sister, Mary Lord; and a great grandchild.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 12, 2017 from 3:00-6:00 PM at Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at 1:00 PM at Hite Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Albaugh officiating.
Burial with military honors will take place at Brushy Chapel Cemetery in LaGrange County.
Memorial donations may be made to Destiny Family of Faith Church in Kendallville.
