Lowell M. Buckner

Lowell M. Buckner, age 80, passed peacefully on January 23, 2017 at Emerson Hospital in Concord, Massachusetts.  Mr. Buckner was born in July of 1936 in Indianapolis, Indiana son of the late Mason Buckner and Elsa Olson Buckner of Wolcottville, Indiana. Lowell was raised in Indiana and graduated Jefferson Township High school. He attended Purdue University’s school of aviation until enlisting in the Air Force where he served his country honorably for four years. Lowell was swiftly recruited to American Airlines after serving in the Air Force. He flew as a Captain with American Airlines for thirty years. Lowell was indeed a renaissance man. Along with being a hard working pilot and farmer, his passions included; recreational aviation and travel, classical music, carpentry, and all the sciences. He was a proud and devoted father and an avid reader with a relentless thirst for knowledge. His interests ranged from science journals to classic literature and poetry. Lowell had a great appreciation for music. He enjoyed playing the piano and organ and during his earlier days sang in a choir. Lowell was an incredibly charming and generous man. He greeted all animals he came across with kindness and respect. Lowell was happiest when surrounded by his family and friends and he will be greatly missed by all who loved him.

He is survived by:  
Son, Steve Buckner and his wife, Sandra of Napa, California. 
Daughter, Judy Burkhart Tokmakian and her husband, Paul of Littleton, Massachusetts.
Son, John Buckner and his wife, Jayne of Gloucester, Massachusetts.
Daughter, Suzanne Buckner of California. 
Lowell was a loving grandfather to grandchildren, Lauren Burkhart, Tyler Burkhart, Naomi Burkhart,
Julia Tokmakian, and Sean Buckner. 
Brother, David Buckner of LaGrange, Indiana. 
Brother, Steve Gavin Buckner of San Francisco, California.
He was also preceded in by his sister, Joyce Abbott of Texas. 

Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2017 from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm at Hite Funeral Home, 403 South Main Street, Kendallville, Indiana.
A graveside service will follow the visitation at 12:30 p.m. at South Milford Cemetery, South Milford, Indiana.
Arrangements entrusted to Hite Funeral Home of Kendallville.
