Margaret Ellen (Reamer) Rehwinkel

Margaret Ellen Rehwinkel, age 89, died January 3rd at Parkview Regional Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana.  Mrs. Rehwinkel was born in Kendallville to John and Anna Reamer on July 1, 1923.  Margaret attended St. John Lutheran School and graduated from Kendallville High School in 1941.  She married Alfred John Rehwinkel on June 15, 1947.

Margaret was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church in Kendallville where she served as church secretary from 1941 to 1948.  She later served as a secretary at the Lutheran Home, at the Kendallville Youth Center and Big Brothers, Big Sisters program.  She served as chair women for St. John Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML).  She served as a zone secretary for LWML for 22 years, helped with mid week school and Vacation Bible School.  Margaret maintained St. John’s archives and chaired the church’s 125th anniversary committee.  She was instrumental in organizing funeral meals for church members and their families and was active in a weekly senior’s Bible study.  Along with Alfred, they delivered Meals on Wheels for 23 years.  For seven years she was an Avon representative.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Velma Manship and Dorothy Frehse, son Alan and husband Alfred. 

Margaret is survived by two daughters Vickie Smith (Reagan) of Kendallville, Kay Lester (Mike) of Bellevue, Washington and a son Mark (Holly) of Wichita, Kansas.  Margaret is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Margaret Rehwinkel (wife of Alan) of Dallas, Texas along with five grandchildren, Kyle (Heather) Smith, Korey (Amanda) Smith, Andrew Rehwinkel, Audrey Rehwinkel & Gil Rehwinkel.  Margaret had two great grandchildren, Laila Rehwinkel Moore and Bryson Smith.

Visitation will be held Thursday the 10th from 3 to 7pm at Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville.  The funeral service will be held at St. John Lutheran Church on Friday the 11th at 11am with Rev. Paul Griebel officiating. Graveside service will be held at Lakeview Cemetery following the funeral.   Preferred memorials are to St. John Lutheran Church or Hilda H. Rehwinkel Scholarship Fund made payable to Noble County Community Foundation, 1599 Lincolnway South, Ligonier IN 46767.
