Michael D. Maxson was welcomed into his eternal home and into his Father’s arms on March 1, 2017 after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Kendallville, Indiana on December 5, 1949 to the late Richard and Berniece (Johnson) Maxson. He was a graduate of East Noble in 1968 and served in the Army from 1969 to 1971. He held several different jobs after returning from the Army: Tri State Lumber, DJing at several locations, Washington House, Huntington Hospital, Parkview Behavioral Hospital, AADP, and he retired from Serenity House Inc. in Auburn in 2014. He became licensed as an addictions counselor and this became his passion. He had over 30 years of research and recovery work.
He loved classic cars and loved studying scripture and reading books. He had a large collection of books and articles. He loved to write and he wrote out several recovery plans for various addictions and his own program for opiate addiction. He was a strong man of God who stayed steadfast in his faith. He loved to spend quality time with people and invest in their lives. He was admired by so many for his passion for Christ. He placed his hope and trust in his Heavenly father and lived by his favorite Scripture- Psalm 25:5 “Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you.”  The family would like to thank the excellent work of Dr. Ahad Sadiq and staff at Fort Wayne Medical Oncology and Hematology for their dedicated fight with us against cancer.

He is survived by one daughter, Breanna (Joshua) Vire in Fort Wayne, Indiana. His siblings: Brad (Jane) Maxson of Noblesville; Shirley (Mike) Ihrie of Kendallville; John (Kathy) Maxson of Langley Air Force Base, Virginia; and Amy (Denny) Jones of Ellettsville and multiple nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Berniece and Richard Maxson and his sister, Patricia (William) Hindenlang.
