Phillip J. Kirk, 76 passed away Friday, August 25,2017.
Phil was born in Kendallville on January 27, 1941 to the late L. Clair and Mary L. (Sampsel) Kirk.  He served in the U.S. Navy from 1959 to 1963.  He married Nancy Ann Surfus on November 27, 1965.  Phil was a police officer for the city of Kendallville for 9 years.  He also was the co-owner of Kendallville Sanitation for 9 years.  He retired in 2006 from the City of Kendallville Water Pollution Control.  Phil enjoyed woodworking, especially making toys, trucks, cars, and trains.  He had a knack for walking into a room of strangers and coming out with a room of friends.  He was a loving and faithful husband, father, and friend.  He was a member of the Kendallville Legion Post 86.  Phil and Nancy enjoyed casino hopping, especially in Laughlin, Nevada and Tunica, Mississippi.  He is survived by his wife, Nancy and daughter, Kristine Kirk.  Phil was preceded in death by his sister, Sharen Wolfe; brother, Duane Kirk; and Step-mother, Bertha Kirk.  

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 from 4:00pm-8:00pm at Hite Funeral Home, 403 South Main Street, Kendallville, Indiana 46755.
