Richard K. Whan

Richard Kermit Whan died Wednesday, June 23, 2015 at Presence Sacred Heart Home in Avilla.  He was born August 9, 1934 in Noble County to Kermit and Lileth (Weaver) Whan (both deceased).  He had one brother, Paul Whan (deceased); and one sister, Janis Shroyer-Groll (deceased).  He graduated from Avilla High School in 1952.  Dick worked at C&C Packing Co. until disability forced retirement.  His hobbies included coon hunting and pulling ponies.
 
He married Clara Jean (Briggs) on June 27, 1954 in Noble County.  She survives.
 
The two of them had four children:  Richard Whan (deceased), Jerald and Sharell Whan of Columbia City, Jay and Brenda Whan of Westfield and Jackie Wakeman of LaOtto.  There are eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
 
In accordance with his wishes, there will be no services.  Burial will be at Avilla Cemetery.  Condolences may be sent to the family at www.hitefuneralhome.com.   Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville is handling arrangements.
