Tammy Jones Dormans

Tamera (Tammy) Jones Dormans, 57, of Anacortes, WA went to be with her Savior on Good Friday, April 14, 2017, following a valiant battle with ovarian cancer. She died at home surrounded by loved ones. Her devotion to her Christian faith and her family supported her and gave her peace and grace as she battled cancer. Tammy was loved by most everyone who knew her, her life was a gift to those who were fortunate enough to be her close friends. Her Christian faith was evident to all. She was known as being kind, incredibly giving, insightful and level-headed.

Tammy was born on January 3,1960 in Terre Haute, IN, the daughter of Thomas & Jean (Spigler) Jones. Tammy was raised in Terre Haute and later earned her bachelor's degree in nursing from Indiana University in 1983. She was married to her husband David Dormans, of Fort Wayne, IN, on May 7,1988 in Indianapolis, IN. Tammy and David lived in Fort Wayne IN from 1988-1996 and in Severn, MD from 1996-1998. Through these years Tammy practiced ICU nursing, supported David in his career and was an amazing wife. From 1998-2001 Tammy and David enjoyed a 3 year sabbatical on their sailboat "Magdalena", sailing the US East coast from New England to Florida and then circumnavigating the Caribbean Sea, including the Bahamas, Greater and Lesser Antilles, the Windward and Leeward Islands, the North coast of South America and the East coast of Central America, visiting 27 countries & sailing 10,000 nautical miles. She excelled in ocean sailing, shipboard electronics & communication, navigation & in preparing amazing shipboard meals in remote areas. From 2001-2002 Tammy & David lived in Loma Linda, CA where David pursued further career training and Tammy practiced ICU nursing at the Loma Linda Medical Center. Tammy and David moved to Washington State in 2002, where Tammy managed David's anesthesiology practice until 2015.

Tammy is survived by her husband David, her Father Thomas P Jones, her step-mother Sharon Jones, her sister Kathryn Jones, her aunt Peggy Van Vooren, two sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law and 9 special nieces and nephews. Tammy was preceded in death by her Mother Jean Jones. Tammy will be remembered as a faithful & loving daughter, sister, wife, aunt, niece, neighbor & friend. Tammy was a wonderful wife and was married to David for 28 joyful years. While Tammy & David had no children of their own, Tammy enjoyed filling the role of "Aunt Tammy" with each of her nieces and nephews. Tammy also loved her "three sons" Cocoa, Buddy, & Ricky, pixie bob cats.

A funeral service will be held at Broadway Christian Church in Fort Wayne, IN at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 22, 2017, with burial to follow the service at Lindenwood Cemetery, also in Fort Wayne. The farmily would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the staff & doctors of Island Hospital in Anacortes, including the Merle Cancer Care Center, for the compassionate & exceptional care they provided to Tammy throughout her battle with cancer. Your many acts of kindness will be long remembered.
