Wilbur Emory Getts, age 88, died at his home in Kendallville on Monday, November 20, 2017.  Mr. Getts was born July 17, 1929 on a farm near Waterloo, Dekalb County, Indiana to the late Clinton Isaac and Mable Mae (Perkins) Getts.  He graduated from Kendallville High School in 1947 and went to work milking cows before entering the United States Army.  He honorably served his country during the Korean War from 1952-1954.  Upon returning from the service, he married Carolyn Jean Geinger on September 11, 1955 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Avilla.  Wilbur was a lifetime dairy farmer.  They sold the farm in 1992 and he was employed with the East Noble School Corporation for ten years as a custodian at the Avilla Elementary School. He also worked with Hometown Foods and Snyder Distributing for 13 more years before finally retiring at age 82.  Wilbur was a Allen Township 4H leader for many years and he also served on the Noble County Fair Swine Committee. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Kendallville and the American Legion Post 240 in Avilla.

Survivors include:
Wife, Carolyn Getts of Kendallville.
Son, Tom and Mary Getts of Kendallville.
Daughter, Cheryl Getts of Avilla.
Son, Matt Getts of Marion.
Niece they raised, Dorothy Sue Thomas of Avilla.
Six grandchildren: Misty and Matt Gordon, Susan and Brad Goodman, Jeff and Val Getts, Patrick Getts, Michelle and Max Kramer, and Rebecca and Brandon Culver.
Seven great grandchildren; Hailee Gordon, Blake Gordon, Sierra Goodman, Brittany Goodman, Kelsie Getts, Addison Kramer, and Cora Culver.
Brother, Lloyd and Mary Getts of Kendallville.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Karen Sue; infant son, David John; sister, Dorothy Metzger; brothers, Harold Getts and Earl Getts; and nephew, Gaylon McCann.

Visitation will be held Friday, November 24, 2017 from 2:00 – 6:00 PM at Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the funeral service.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 25, 2017 at 11:00 AM at St. John Lutheran Church in Kendallville. Pastor Robert Shriner will officiate the funeral service.
Burial with military honors will take place at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery near Avilla.  Pallbearers will be Jeff Getts, Patrick Getts, Brandon Culver, Max Kramer, Blake Gordon, and Kevin Becker.  Honorary bearers are Matt and Misty Gordon, Brad and Susan Goodman, and Hailee Gordon 
Memorial donations may be given to St. John Lutheran Church or Parkview Noble Hospice.
