DONALD NELSON SMITH, age 61, of LaOtto died on Friday, March 30, 2012 at his home.
He was born in Wolf Lake, Indiana on January 25, 1951 to Nelson B. Smith and Martha C. (Earnhart) Smith.
Don graduated from East Noble High School in 1969.
For the past 25 years, Don has worked as a foreman for Wilmer Concrete in Huntertown. He was also a lifelong Noble County farmer.
Don was an antique tractor enthusiast. He owned all kinds of tractors but International Harvester was his favorite. He also liked to go to auctions and spend time helping and being with his neighbors. Don was considered the "mayor" of 950 East.
Survivors include:
His mother, Martha C. Smith of Albion.
His companion, Mary E. Bear of Fort Wayne.
Two sons, Nelson E. and Joantha Smith of Avilla and Jason D. and Michele Smith of Bloomington, Illinois.
One daughter, Jamie M. Smith of Fort Wayne.
Six grandchildren: Alex Smith, Olivia Smith, Anthony Smith, Evan Smith, Stephen Smith and Emersyn Smith.
One brother, Kenneth and Karen Smith of Waterloo.
His aunt, Annamae Earnhart of Churubusco.
He was preceded in death by his father, Nelson B. Smith.
Visitation will be Tuesday, April 3, 2012 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville.
Officiating the funeral service will be Rev. Dean Bearman.
Burial will be at Sparta Cemetery in Kimmell, Indiana.
Preferred memorials may be made to American Cancer Society.
Casketbearers will be Chris Lapham, Dave Fischer, Noah Ladig, Brian Fike, Luke Love, Chad Dean, John Harper and Ryan Wilmer.
