DONALD L. STRAYER, age 84, of Kendallville, died on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at his residence.
Mr. Strayer was born in Chicago, Illinois on May 6, 1927 to the late Rue L. and Rhea Ferrell (Tickle) Strayer.
He graduated from Pleasant Mills High School in 1945 and honorably served his country in the United States Navy during WWII.  He was married to Doris D. Byer on November 1, 1947.
Don was a retired foreman from International Harvestor in Fort Wayne after 30+ years. After retirement they spent 13 years living in Brooksville, Florida year-round before moving back to Kendallville.
He enjoyed working on the farm, woodworking, hunting and fishing, and taking care of his yard.  He was a diehard Chicago Cub fan, and an I.U. basketball fan.  He and Doris also loved to travel around the country.

Survivors include:
His wife of 64 years, Doris Strayer of Kendallville.
Son, Daniel Strayer of New Haven.
Daughter, Diane and Cliff Porter of Fort Wayne.
Daughter, Debbie Humphries of Fort Wayne.
Five grandchildren: Sandy and Jared Dunfee of Fort Wayne; Matt Porter of Fort Wayne; Darren and Angie Strayer of New Haven; Jason Porter of Fort Wayne; and Justin Humphries of Fort Wayne.
Four great-grandchildren.
Brother, Doyle and Millie Strayer of Decatur.

Visitation will be Monday, April 16, 2012 from 4:00-8:00pm at Hite Funeral Home, 403 South Main Street in Kendallville.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at 11:00am at Hite Funeral Home.  There will be an hour of visitation before the funeral service
Officiating the funeral service will be Pastor Scott Pattison.
Burial will be at Covington Memorial Gardens in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Preferred memorials may be made to National Alzheimer's Association or American Diabetes Association.
Casketbearers will be her son-in-law, Cliff Porter and her grandsons, Matt, Darren, Jason, Justin, and Jared.
