Dear Marlene and family, It was with great sadness when I received the call yesterday about John's death. As Marlene is aware, John was my very special patient for years. We visited and talked often about how he was to live only 6 months when I first started taking care of him. I am so glad he lived longer and became my good friend. We visited about everything from politics to family to weather. We avoid health issues as he knew well about enduring those issues. I remember having a party for him when he reached milestones in his blood transfusions. He was always pleasant to be around. I remember the day I retired I visited him. I asked if I could give him a kiss and he and Marlene both said that would be fine. He has been on my mind frequently lately and I was going to drop him a card or call him. I guess the Lord beat me to it. Please accept my condolences for the death of your husband, father and brother. He was such a nice man - my special friend born on St Patty's day as I will always remember as we needed to verify each and every time we gave him blood. Jane Londt

I am proud to say that I was a friend of John's, while going to Rome City High School. We played several sports together during this time. We went our seperate ways as we got older, but I was fortunate enough to see John several years back, with our friend Charlie Biddle. It was a very nice afternoon of conversation, laughs, and stories to be remembered.

Our deepest sympathy to the Sturgis family for their loss.

Dear Marlene and family,
I too remember John and you when we were all in school at Rome City High. I had heard from my brother that John was ill. Please know my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at John's passing.

Marlene and Family, Donna, and Ron,
I write this with a heavy heart because of John's passing. We were close friends since we were 3 and 4 years old and have remained friends with close contact for over 70 years. It's not often one has the honor of having a close friend for that long. John has been my best friend all my life, and when we married our wives became close friends. John and I have had numerous personal and telephone conversations over the years, and especially the past 2 or 3 years. He knew it was just a matter of time for him. One thing he told me over and over was the attentive care Marlene gave him and how much he appreciated her. Marlene, Faye and I know you, too, have had a long and tedious last 10 to 12 years giving John the best care he could have. You don't know how much Faye and I respect and appreciate the care you have given our friend. We were very upset when Marlene called us about John's passing, and especially when I was advised not to travel there for his visitation and service due to my recent health issues. You can be assured our love, thoughts, and prayers were with all of you. Some of the best times we've had are the times we've spent with you and your family and the wonderful memories we've made through the years. We send all our love.
