RICHARD VORNDRAN, age 80, of Avilla, Formerly of Fort Wayne died on Saturday, February 6, 2010 at Parkview Noble Hospital, Kendallville.
 
He was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana on April 7, 1929 to the late Richard F. and Emma  E. (Hilty) Vorndran.
 
Mr. Vorndran graduated from Fort Wayne South Side High School in 1947.
                       
He served his country in the United States Navy from 1947 to 1951.
 
Mr. Vorndran married Catherine R. Reese on July 17, 1951 in Norfolk, Virginia. She survives in Avilla.
 
He was a electronic technician for the FAA at the Baer Field Airport in Fort Wayne, Indiana for 28 years until he retired in 1986.
 
Mr. Vorndran enjoyed gardening and reading. He also liked to spend his time building navy military models. 
 
His family knew him as caretaker of sorts. Whatever or whoever needed to be cared for he was always there to help.
 
Survivors include:
his wife; Catherine R. Vorndran of Avilla
one son; Michael and Meg Vorndran of Shawnee, Oklahoma
two daughters; Sharon and Tom Lamb of Tucson, Arizone
Kathy and Greg Ensley of Wolcottville
five grandchildren; Elizabeth "Libby", Andy and Aaron, Anne and Joe and his wife Carissa
one great grandson; Dylan
 
He was preceded in death by his parents
 
Visitation will be Wednesday, February 10, 2010, from 5 to 8 PM at Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville.
Funeral Services will be Thursday, February 11, 2010 at 10:00 AM at Hite Funeral Home, Kendallville.
Officiating the funeral service will be Pastor Steve Ensley.
Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Preferred Memorials may be made to Provena Sacred Heart Assisted Living Courtyard Building Fund.  Memorials may be sent to Provena Sacred Heart Home, 515 North Main Street, Avilla, Indiana  46710.
