Jeannie (Gerig) Johnson

Jeannie Marie (Gerig) Johnson, age 67, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. Jeannie was born in Iowa City, Iowa on September 21, 1956 to Wesley Lee Gerig and Mary C. (Steiner) Gerig. The little family moved to Fort Wayne when Jeannie was a baby. She loved her brothers John, Jeff, and Jared (Jerry). Jeannie married Timothy Virgil Johnson on July 27, 1985 in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Jeannie studied Bible and elementary education at Fort Wayne Bible College and then earned a Master of Education degree. She was a gifted teacher who taught at Fort Wayne Christian School, Faith Academy in the Philippines, Christian Academy in Japan, and as a substitute teacher in Fort Wayne Community Schools. She and Tim served overseas as missionaries with TEAM-The Evangelical Alliance Misson for 25 years.

She loved people and regularly used her gift of hospitality to help people feel seen and cared for. She had a lovely singing voice, impeccable handwriting, and sweet spirit. She was completely devoted to her Savior Jesus Christ.

Jeannie loved her roles as wife to Tim, mother to Julie and Jared, mother-in-law to Christina, and more recently as grandma.  She endeared herself to grandson Landon just like all the rest of us.

Memorial visitation will be held Friday, March 22, 2024 from 3:00 - 6:00 PM at First Missionary Church, 701 West Rudisill Blvd., Fort Wayne, Indiana.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 23, 2024 at First Missionary Church with visitation at 9:30 AM prior to the service.
