Don Mires

Donald Mires, age 92, of Grabill, passed away surrounded by his family on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 and went to be with The Lord.  He was born April 5, 1927 in Jeffersonville, Indiana to Peter and Catherine (Schnell) Mires and raised in the Fort Wayne Children’s Home.  He honorably served his country in the United States Navy during WWII and was a member of the American Legion Post 409 in Leo.  Don was a hard working man.  He was employed for 40 years at Dana Corporation and he owned and operated Leo Home Improvement. After his retirement, Don went back to work at Ratheon until he was age 85.  He had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed working, keeping busy, and being around people.  He loved spending time with his large family, gardening, and camping.

Daughter, Suzanne and Jim Jackson of Leo.
Daughter, Linda and Larry Frieden of Fort Wayne.
Daughter, Carolyn Newman of Leo.
Daughter, Katrina and Raymond Chapman of Auburn.
Daughter, Joyce and Tyrone Fanning of Grabill.
Son, David and Lela Mires of Fort Wayne.
Son, John and Cathy Mires of Leo.
Son, Bryan Mires and Andrea Brown of Leo.
21 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Katherine Getz and Lottie Cox; one brother, Herbert Mires; and a great granddaughter, Marissa Hetrick.

Visitation will be held Friday, April 26, from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 12640 St. Joe Road, Grabill. 
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 27, 2019 at 12:00 PM at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church with an hour of visitation prior to the service. 
Burial with military honors will take place at Leo Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the counseling fund at the VA Hospital in Fort Wayne.
