Dorothy Alice Hartman, age 89, passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at Golden Years Homestead in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Mrs. Hartman was born on April 18, 1928 to the late George Elijah Sherwood and Ann Christine (Freed) Sherwood in Dekalb County near Waterloo, Indiana. She graduated from Ashley High School in 1946 and married Walter “Buster” Hartman on December 7, 1947 in Auburn, Indiana. Buster preceded her in death on June 6, 2000. Dorothy was employed with the Kendallville Printing Company for 35 years before retiring in 1999. Prior to that, she was a waitress at the St. James Restaurant in Avilla from 1953-1971. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and Charm & Chatter Home Demonstration Club.
She is survived by her daughter, Janice Hartman of Fort Wayne and two sisters; Beverly Blech of Waterloo and Shirley Langley of Kendallville.
Visitation will be held Friday from 3:00–7:00 PM at Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville and an hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Zion Lutheran Church, 389 County Road 12, near Corunna with Pastor Stephen Koziol officiating the service. There will be visitation an hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will take place at Fairfield Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to Zion Lutheran Church or Alter Guild.
