Dorothy Sorensen, age 87, passed away Thursday, January 11, 2018 at her home in Kendallville. Mrs. Sorensen was born on July 18, 1930 in Lebanon, New Hampshire to the late Henry and Phyllis (Blake) Castonguay.  She graduated from Lebanon High School in 1948.  She raised four children, held several part-time jobs and worked as a home health aide in Pottersville, New York, in the heart of the Adirondack Mountains, which she dearly loved. While residing in Brant Lake, New York, Dorothy was a Cub Scout den mother for four years, often participating in variety shows by organizing and helping the boys put on skits, which were enjoyed by many.  She also taught Sunday school at the local Baptist church and served as president and secretary of the Horicon Central School P.T.O. In 1983, she married Robert Sorensen and they moved to Kendallville, Indiana where she worked for the Northeastern Center.  She was a member of the Noble County Laubach Literary Council in 1986 & 1987 and was voted area coordinator both years.  She also volunteered at Shepherd of the Hill (now known as Lutheran Life Villages), and also was a C.A.S.A volunteer.  In Dorothy’s words…her children and husband, Bob, where the high points of her life, along with the love of dear friends. 

Survivors include:
Husband, Robert Sorensen of Kendallville.
Daughter, Suzanne Mountz of Kendallville.
Daughter, Julie Cates of Kendallville.
Son, Darren Cates and son-in-law, Jayson Balsley of Kendallville.
Her much loved cat, Shasta, who was rescued from the Noble County Humane Shelter many years ago.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Phyllis Dowling; her son, Forrest Cates; and her son-in-law, Jeff Mountz. 

A gathering time of family and friends will be held on Thursday, February 1, 2018 from 4:00 - 6:00 PM at Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville.
