Edmonia Frye (Dance) Brooks

Edmonia Frye Brooks, age 108, died Thursday, August 3, 2017 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana.  Mrs. Brooks was born January 7, 1909 in Richmond, Virginia to the late Spencer and Sallie (Reed) Dance.  She graduated from Armstrong High School in 1928 and married William Daniel Frye in 1929.  He preceded her in death in 1936. She later married James Howard Brooks and he died in 1955.  She was employed for 27 years as a meat packer at Hygrade Meat Company in Richmond, Virginia.  Edmonia moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1985. She attended the Wellspring Center and Memorial Baptist Church both in Fort Wayne and Providence Park Baptist Church in Richmond, Virginia in the past. She was avid bowler until she was 105 years old and she was a member of several bowling teams including Workers of the Blind Bowlers, Golden Lions Blind Bowlers, and a Saturday night mixed double bowlers team. She received the “2009 Phenomenal Women of the Year” award from Eta Upsilon, Zeta Chapter and the Rev. Arnold Pearson award from Wellspring. 

Survivors include:
Daughter, Edna Metoyer of Fort Wayne.
Granddaughter, Gail Morris and grandson, Theodore Carroll both of Fort Wayne.
19 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren, and 2 great-great-great grandchildren.
Daughters-in-law, Vivian Frye of Massachusetts and Yvonne Frye of Richmond, Virginia and a host of nieces and nephews, family and friends. 
She was preceded in death by her two sons, William Daniel Frye and Everett Walter Frye; five brothers and one sister. 

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 11, 2017 at 12:00 noon at Ceruti’s Banquet & Event Center, 6601 Innovation Blvd, Fort Wayne, IN 46818.  Rev. David Mitchell will officiate the funeral. 
Visitation will be held prior to the funeral service on Friday from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM at Ceruti’s. 
Mausoleum entombment will follow at Covington Memorial Gardens in Fort Wayne.
