Edsel Childers, age 89, died Tuesday July 3rd, 2018 at Lutheran Life Villages in Kendallville.  Mr. Childers was born February 4th, 1929 in Knott County Kentucky to the late Jay and Ellen (Chaffins) Childers.  He married Catherine Cox on March 20, 1948 in Kentucky and she preceded him in death on April 19th, 2017 after 69 years of marriage.  He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.  He retired from Newnam Foundry where he was a supervisor for many years and was better known by the nickname "Dickie". 

Survivors include:
Son, Robert and Kathy Childers of Leo.
Five grandchildren: Kendra Anderson of Ann Arbor, Michigan; Jodi and Dave Helmer of Waterloo; Jamey and Jeremy Walker of Kendallville; Brian and Janel Childers of Avilla; and Samantha Lynch of Bella Vista, Arkansas.
Eleven great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. 
Brother, Oscar and Edna Childers of Willard, Ohio.
He was also preceded in death by his son, Bill Childers who died November 8, 2006; Sister, Zeda Childers; and Brothers Cap and Buford Childers.   

Visitation will be held Friday, July 6th from 10:00 am for one hour at Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville.
Funeral services will be held immediately following the viewing on July 6th at 11:00 am at Hite Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Mosley officiating. 
Burial will take place at Rehoboth Cemetery near Albion.
Pallbearers will be his great grandchildren, Corey Kiser, Lucas Childers, Noah Childers, Nate Anderson, and Charlie Anderson.
