Fred A. Stephens, age 77, formerly of Kendallville and recently of Rome City, died Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at his residence on Sylvan Lake near Rome City.  Mr. Stephens was born on August 2, 1939 in Manton, Kentucky to the late James Stephens and Martha (Whitaker) Stephens.  He graduated from Garrett High School, Garrett, Kentucky in 1959 and that same year moved to Kendallville to begin working at McCray Refrigeration where he worked for eight years.  He married his high school sweetheart, Brenda Carol Wallace on May 27, 1961 in Clintwood, Virginia.  Fred was also employed for 30 years with International Harvester in Fort Wayne and Ohio before retiring in 1998.

Survivors include:
His wife, Brenda Stephens of Sylvan Lake.
Son, James and Tamara Stephens of Williamstown, Massachusetts
Daughter, Debbie and Robert Manning of Kendallville.
Son, Jeffrey and Stella Stephens of Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Three grandchildren: Nathan Mase, Gabe Stephens, and Abigel Stephens.
Step grandson, Tommy; and two great granddaughters, Elizabeth and Alyssa Mase. 
Sister, Edith Patrick of Georgia.
Sister, Imogene Stone of Ohio.
Brother, Jack and Joyce Stevens of Hueysville, Kentucky.
Sister, Joy and Cleo Slone of Danville, Kentucky.
Sister, Wanda and Enoch Duff of Greenfield, Indiana.
Sister, Patricia and Reed Hearn of Murray, Kentucky.
Brother, Bill and Darlene Stephens of Murray, Kentucky.
He was also preceded in death by his siblings Cletis Stephens, Clyde Stevens, Ruth Stumbo, and Lorene Lykens.

Visitation will be held Friday from 5:00 - 8:00 PM at Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville.
Visitation will also be held Saturday, June 3, 2017 from 6:00 – 9:00 PM at Hall Funeral Home in Martin, Kentucky
Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 4, 2017 at 1:00 PM at Hall Funeral Home in Martin.
Burial will take place at Campbell Family Cemetery near Mousie, Kentucky.
