James L. Brown, age 71, died at his home in Rome City on Wednesday, January 3, 2018. Jim was born on September 17, 1946 in Kendallville, Indiana to the late Noah Brown, Jr. and Elinor (Greenman) Conrad. He graduated from Kendallville High School in 1964 and honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He married Betty Jo Fuller and they have been together for 41 years. Jim was employed at Newnam Foundry in Kendallville for 38 years before retiring when the foundry closed. He was a member of the Rome City American Legion Post 381 and the American Legion Riders when escorting Honor Flight attendees.
Survivors include:
Wife, Betty Brown of Rome City.
Daughter, Linette Bolen and her companion, Matt Reid both of Kendallville.
Daughter, Valerie and Michael Dilts of Englewood, Florida.
Six grandchildren: Brittany Patrick of Kendallville; Caitlin Patrick of Avilla; Dakota Patrick and his companion, Autum Ferrier of Huntertown; Amy and William Fee of Lake James, Angola; April and Jim Behrman of Fremont; and Clayton and Jeanette Dilts of Bloomington, Indiana. Ten great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Visitation will be held Sunday, January 7, 2018 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville and one hour prior to the service on Monday.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 8, 2018 at 12:00 noon at Hite Funeral Home with elder Michael Dilts officiating the service.
Burial with military honors will take place at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Dale Caywood, John Martin, Dakota Patrick, Clayton Dilts, Dan Kreider, and Max Weber.
Memorial donations may be made to Parkview Noble Hospice.
