JOHN FRED BIXBY, 89, died on May 12, 2008 at Parkview Noble Hospital in Kendallville, Indiana.

He was born in Unity, Ohio on January 28, 1919 to Benjamin Jarvis and Alice (Rodgers) Bixby.

He married Maria A. Vaccaro on December 24, 1955 in East Liverpool, Ohio

Mr. Bixby served his country during WWII in the United States Army being honorably discharged in 1944.

He worked at Kenmare Furniture Factory in East Palestine, Ohio; he was a police constable for Unity Township in Columbiana County, Ohio for 15 years; the Chief of Police for New Waterford, Ohio at the same time he was constable and he worked at the W.S. George Pottery in East Palestine, Ohio.

In 1967 the family moved to LaPorte, Indiana where he worked at the Kingsley Furniture Factory, the Indiana Department of Corrections as a corrections officer at the Michigan City State Prison for 16 years and the LaPorte Foundry for 10 years.

They moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1986 where Mr. Bixby worked at the Unical 76 Station for 15 years.

When the Bixby's moved back to Kendallville in 2000, John worked at the Kendallville Wal-Mart for 5 years before he got sick.

He was a member of Church of the Nazarene in LaPorte where he served as a trustee. He loved
Religious music and he was a singer in the Church of the Nazarene choir.

Daughter, Joanne M. and Walter Kauffman of New Brighton, Pennsylvania
Son, John Bixby of Waldorf, Maryland
Daughter, Tara A. Rice and Daniel Lillegard of Avilla, Indiana
Son, Allan Dale and Sherry Bixby of Avilla
Son, Lawrence Richard and Dawn Bixby of Kendallville

Ten Grandchildren: Amy Butrey of Cleveland, Ohio; Brian Rae of New Brighton; Jennifer Milner of Avilla; Daniel Butler of Avilla; Stephanie Milner of Avilla; Brandi Bixby of Kendallville; Jon Bixby of Kendallville; RJ Bixby of Kendallville; Danny Lillegard of Avilla; Dylan Rice of Avilla.

Sister, Bonnie Howes of East Liverpool, Ohio
Brother, Rev. B.J. and Betty Bixby of Orlando, Florida.

Preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Betty Averitt and a brother, J.E. Bixby.

Visitation will be Wednesday, May 14, 2008 from 2 to 5 PM at Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville.

Funeral Services will be Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at 5PM at Hite Funeral Home, Kendallville.

Officiating the funeral service in Indiana will be Rev. Dan McDonald.

Visitation in Ohio will be Friday, May 16, 2008 from Noon to 3 PM at Dawson Funeral Home, East Liverpool, Ohio.

Funeral Services in Ohio will be Friday, May 16, 2008 at 3 PM at Dawson Funeral Home, East Liverpool, Ohio.

Burial will be at Spring Grove Cemetery in East Liverpool, Ohio.

Preferred Memorials may be made to Police Fund of East Palestine, Ohio.
