LAVON VIRGILIA JANSEN, age 83, of Kendallville died on Thursday, October 16, 2008 at Parkview Noble Hospital, Kendallville.

Mrs. Jansen was born in Avilla, Indiana on October 21, 1924 to William L. and Alice C. (Schmenk) Carteaux. She was "Miss Avilla" in 1940 and graduated from Avilla High School in 1942.
She married Dr. Bernard W. Jansen on September 27, 1947 in Avilla and he preceded her in death January 22, 1990.

LaVon was a dedicated member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kendallville where she was a very active with the Rosary Sodality and as a Eucharistic minister.
Mrs. Jansen was a member of the American Red Cross and an important part of the Kendallville Blood Mobile serving as chairwomen since 1979.
She was the City of Kendallville "Citizen of the Year" in 2007.
She was awarded "Outstanding Lay Person" of Immaculate Conception Church in 1994 and the Knights of Columbus Community and State of Indiana Award.
Mrs. Jansen received the Noble County Community Foundation "Giver of Gifts" Award in 1998 and
Was a member of the Noble County Prayer Breakfast Committee for 25 years.
LaVon was also a member of Tri Kappa, Beta Chapter of Kendallville, the Lady Elks, the American Legion Auxillary Post #86, and the Noble County Women's Democratic Club.

Thomas L. and Linda Jansen of Kendallville
James S. and Pam Jansen of Kendallville
Robert W. and Gwyn Jansen of St. Johns, Michigan
Gerard A. and Lori Jansen of Kendallville
Michael P. and Brenda Jansen of Kendallville
Jon J. and Noel Jansen of Indianapolis
Douglas A. and Susan Jansen of Kendallville

15 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren

Two brothers, Russell and Nelle Carteaux of Avilla, Carteaux and Tom and Carolyn Carteaux of Auburn.

LaVon was also preceded in death by parents; her three sisters, Teresa, Barbara and Beverly;
and two brothers, Larry and Robert Carteaux.

Visitation will be Sunday, October 19, 2008, from 12:00-7:00pm with the rosary recited at 6:45pm at Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, October 20, 2008 at 10:30am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Kendallville.
Officiating the funeral service will be Fr. Jacob Gall.

Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Avilla.
Casketbearers will be Christopher Jansen, Nicholas Jansen, Paul Jansen, Kyle Jansen, Kevin Jansen, and Joel Pippenger.

Preferred Memorials may be made to the American Red Cross, Rosary Sodality or to masses.
