Les Alligood, age 80, of Rome City, died unexpectedly on Monday, September 17, 2018 at home on Sylvan Lake. Les was born November 30, 1937 in Washington, North Carolina to the late Guy Lester Alligood and Millie Morgan (Woolard) Alligood. He graduated from Washington High School in 1956 and entered into the United States Air Force honorably serving his country from 1956-1960. He married Marilyn Ann Donat in May of 1968 at Trinity Church United Methodist in Kendallville and Marilyn preceded him in death on August 1, 2016. Les began a 29 year career with the Indiana State Police in 1963 before retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Rome City American Legion Post #381, Kendallville Rotary Club, Masonic Lodge #276, and the Mizpah Shrine of Fort Wayne. Les was also an honorary member of the Orr Masonic Lodge #144, Washington, North Carolina.
Survivors include:
Daughter, Ann Marie Alligood of Cicero, Indiana.
Son, Darin Alligood and daughter-in-law, Hollie Mozena of Rome City.
Granddaughter, JoAnna MaeLee Alligood of Rome City.
Brother, Danny and Linda Alligood of Washington, North Carolina.
Les was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, son, Joseph M. Alligood; one sister, Pauline Elder; and one brother, Delmar Alligood.
Visitation will be Friday, September 21, 2018 from 3:00 – 8:00 PM at Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Hite Funeral Home with Pastor Chris Stephens of Trinity Church officiating. There will be visitation one hour prior to the service.
Burial with Indiana State Police and military honors will take place at Orange Cemetery near Rome City.
Pallbearers will Jim Springer, Andrew Strack, Robert Edwards, Daryl DeMuyt and representatives from the Indiana State Police. Honorary pallbearers will be Alan Alligood and Tom Elder.
