Mary Ellen Alexander, age 89, died Thursday, July 5, 2018 at Parkview Memorial Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Mrs. Alexander was born April 24, 1929 in LaGrange County, LaGrange, Indiana to the late Archie and Retha (Ringler) Gage. She graduated from LaGrange High School in May of 1947 and married Max C. Alexander on June 28, 1947.  Max preceded her in death on January 24, 2008. Mary worked at Maloley’s Food Store and Roger’s Supermarket in Kendallville for 23 years before retiring in 1988. 

Survivors include:
Daughter, Robin and Peter Schultz of Northport, Alabama.
Daughter, Wendy and Jeff Martin of Columbia City.
Son-in-law, Paul Richards of Kendallville.
Five grandchildren: Tracey and Bill Zimmerman of Angola; Peter and Nicole Schultz of Avon; Adam and Caira Martin of Leo; Tyler and Melissa Martin of Kendallville; and Emily Schultz of Fort Wayne. 16 great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Richards in 2009; sister, Betty Merrifield; and two brothers, Gene Gage and Bill Gage.

Visitation will be held Monday, July 9, 2018 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM at Hite Funeral Home, Kendallville.
Funeral services will also be held on Monday at 4:00 PM at Hite Funeral Home.
Burial will take place at Lake View Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the National Down’s Syndrome Society.
