Pearl Roselyn Rhodes, age 102, died Sunday, December 24, 2017 at Presence Sacred Heart Home in Avilla.  Mrs. Rhodes was born in Avilla, Indiana on July 27, 1915 to the late Frank Ley and Mary “Mame” (Schlotter) Ley. She was first married to Edward J. Zaucha in 1940. A World War II hero, Edward was killed in military action during the time of the Battle of the Bulge in 1944. He was laid to rest in France. Four years later, Pearl married Argyl Clifford Rhodes in July of 1948 and he preceded her in death on March 1, 2004. Pearl was a homemaker and member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Rosary Sodality in Avilla.

Survivors include:
Son, Ronald and Janet Zaucha of Avilla.
Son, Richard and Diane Rhodes of Little Turkey Lake near LaGrange.
Son, Robert and Kim Rhodes of Kendallville.
Daughter, Darlene and Carl Mondoro of Mobile, Alabama.
Son, Jack and Tammy Rhodes of Kendallville.
11 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and 11 great-great grandchildren.
Sister, Eileen “Mike” Davenport of Avilla.
Sister, Mary Jane Stoner of Avilla.
Sister, Betty Ellert of Avilla.
Sister, Madonna Brandenburg of Avilla.
She was also preceded in death by a sister, Martha Ross; and brothers, Jerome Ley and Francis Ley. 

Visitation will be held Thursday, December 28, 2017 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville. There will be a rosary service at 8:00 PM.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, December 29, 2017 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Avilla with visitation an hour prior to the funeral mass. 
Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Avilla.
Memorial donations may be made to the St. Mary’s Catholic School.
