Beverly Doenges Obituary

Beverly J. (Landgraff) Doenges passed away at Lutheran Life Villages in Kendallville, IN,  Tuesday, May 5, 2026.  She was 93 years of age.

Beverly was born on December 18, 1932, at a farmhouse near Avilla to Dale and Marie Landgraff. As their first child, she was later joined by four siblings: Joe, Doris Jean, Jerry, and Linda.

Bev initially worked at McCray Refrigeration before relocating to Fort Wayne to join General Telephone Company, which later became Verizon. She began her career as a telephone operator and advanced into management. It was during this time that she met and married David Doenges. Following her retirement, they moved to Dallas Lake in LaGrange County.

After retirement, Bev developed a talent for sewing following the purchase of her first Pfaff sewing machine by her husband. Although initially hesitant to accept the gift, she committed herself to taking classes and honing her skills, striving for excellence in every project, whether it involved clothing or quilt-making. Over time, her collection of sewing machines expanded to include embroidery equipment, which she incorporated into her work, resulting in beautifully crafted pieces of art. She also taught herself to complete counted cross-stitch projects, finding greater enjoyment in it than in sewing. Those who possess one of her creations are truly fortunate. She has left a meaningful and lasting legacy.

Following her husband's passing, Bev relocated to Kendallville to be closer to her family. She valued the presence of friends and family who visited her. Her warm and helpful demeanor, along with her sense of humor, was appreciated by all who knew her. Bev was a member of First Christian Church in Kendallville, where she enjoyed being around others and sharing positive moments.

Surviving family members are: sister, Linda (Roger) Jackson, Kendallville; nephews Scott Jackson (Rebekah, Ryan), Ryan (Dawn) Jackson (Mallory, Miles), Brian Landgraff, Teresa (Stuart) Weiss,  Melanie (Tod) Craver, Mark (Diane) Murphy,  Michael Murphy, Joseph (Cristine) Landgraff, Sue (Alfie) Denegress, Tom (Norma)Landgraff, plus several great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Dave, brothers Joe (Judy) Landgraff and Jerry Landgraff; sister Doris Jean Leichenauer; and niece Ann Stevenson.

The family would like to thank the staff at Lutheran Life Villages, especially those in the Memory Care Unit who so lovingly cared for Beverly’s needs during her stay with them.  She was called “Bevieboo” and  “Bevy” by some of the precious workers there.  Thank You!
