Catherine Gloria (Liacopoulos) Roy, age 98 of Lake of the Woods, Hudson, passed away peacefully June 4th , 2024, at her home.
Mrs. Roy was born in Herrin, Illinois on June 2, 1926, to the late Efstathios Liacopoulos and Mary ( VanSaghi) Liacopoulos. She met Wilho ( Bill) Roy at a dance at Bledsoe’s Beach. They were married May 5, 1951, in Toledo, Ohio. Bill preceded her in death May 8, 2013. She was a member of St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church on Big Long Lake and member of the Rosary Sodality as well.
Catherine Roy was an artist. She went to the Ft Wayne Art School and became a member of the Ft Wayne art guild. She was featured at the Notre Dame Snite art museum for her sculpture, “Pioneer Woman” She won an award for that as well as many others! She was known for her old world Santa’s and fishermen. They were one of a kind originals. She also did several works in stained glass. Her earlier years were in advertising in Toledo. In the 1970’s and 1980’s she was a window trimmer for women’s clothing stores.
Later in life she enjoyed handing out her watercolors to many! - even from the golf cart!
Catherine was an avid singer with the Sweet Adeline’s. She sang with them for forty years. At age 80 she was Sweet Adeline of the year.
She and Bill were world travelers- a lot of times with family and friends. They took many cruises, and they enjoyed going to Cocoa Beach Florida to use their time shares on the ocean. She had many Lake of the Woods friends and cherished their friendships.
She loved her golden-doodle, Wrigley whom she adopted at the age of 89.
Most of all, she was so proud of her children, Steve and Mary who all live on the same lake and were dedicated to keep Catherine in her own home, as well as her 3 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren, all whom she cherished.
She said on her 98th birthday the key to longevity is Family, Friends, and Food! She knew she was blessed!
She was able to pass along her passion for art to her great grandchildren who were painting with her on her 98th-last birthday June 2, 2024.
Her passion for art and watercolors were with her to her last day. She was painting at 10:30 pm the night before she passed away. YOUR LIFE IS A WORK OF ART
