Don Durick Obituary

Donald Edward “Don” Durick, age 91, of Fort Wayne, died Thursday, October 17, 2019 at Lutheran Life Villages in Fort Wayne.  Mr. Durick was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa on January 7, 1928 to the late Edward Amos and Vera Viola (McLaughlin) Durick. Don was an active youth. During high school, he played softball, football, and wrestling. He also played trombone in the Thomas Jefferson High School band and participated in youth programs at the First Church of the Nazarene.  On October 6, 1945, eighteen year old Don enlisted in the United States Navy where he honorably served his country during WWII.  After his Navy duty, Don attended Olivet Nazarene College from 1949–1953 where he graduated with a degree in Business Administration.  His first job was in Fort Wayne with the American Industrial Bankers Association.  It was in Fort Wayne that he met his wife-to-be, Marlene Evelyn Imel, at a religious conference they both attended at the Scottish Rite. Marlene and Don dated for about one year before they were married July 24, 1954 at the Plymouth Congregational Church in Fort Wayne, Indiana.  Don was also employed with Western Auto in Sydney, Ohio, 3M Company of Fort Wayne, and Southwest Allen County School Corporation.

Survivors include:
Wife of 65 years, Marlene Durick of Fort Wayne.
Son, Douglas and Laurette Durick of Lexington, Kentucky.
Daughter, Londa and Matthew Garringer of Fort Wayne.
Daughter, Pamela and Eagle Lindsey of Fort Wayne.
Four grandchildren: Nicholas and Stacey Fletter of Fort Wayne; Melissa and Daniel Byam of Fort Wayne; Maria and Mark Bennett of Georgetown, Kentucky; and Daniel and Riah Durick of Lexington.
Four great grandchildren: Jonathan, Dominick, Graham, and Eva.
Sister, Eleanor Nelson of Ankeny, Iowa.
Sister, Hazel Hughes of Council Bluffs, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandson, John E. Fletter; sisters, Virginia Peterson, Evelyn Hopper, and Phyllis Miller; and a brother, James Durick.

Visitation will be held Monday, October 21st from 3:00 – 7:00 PM at Grace Point Church of the Nazarene, 8611 Mayhew Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Funeral services with military honors will be held Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Grace Point Church with Pastor Rex Person officiating.  There will be an hour of visitation prior to the funeral service. 
Burial will take place at Greenlawn Cemetery in Fort Wayne at 2:30 PM.
Memorial donations may be made to Grace Point Church of the Nazarene or Lutheran Life Villages.
