Don Hieber

Donald “Don” Lee Hieber, 75, of New Haven, Indiana passed away unexpectedly on August 24, 2023.  Don was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana on May 22, 1948, a son of the late Frieda (Roemke) and William “Bill” Hieber. Don grew up on a dairy farm.  He loved all things related to farming, especially cattle, horses, crops, and tractors.  Don’s entire career revolved around farming and the dairy industry.  He also proudly served his country in the United States Army.  

Family, friends, and serving the Lord was Don’s life.  He was a faithful, lifelong member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne.  Don was a truly selfless person.  He was always willing to help others without looking for personal gain.  He mentored countless Alcoholics Anonymous members since 1991.  Don was always on the go.  He loved all of his family very much.  He had an extra special, close relationship with his grandson, William.  They spent much time together working on projects around the farm and the lake.  In his later years, Don loved spending time at Adam’s Lake with his wife, Holly, and beloved lake community friends.  His smile and gentle outgoing nature made it easy to love him.  

Don will be sadly missed by his wife Holly (married Aug. 17, 2019); siblings, Jane (Ray) Melcher and Dennis (Judy) Hieber; children, Bruce Hieber; Brad (Roanne) Hieber;  Anita (Mark) Collins; stepchildren, Jake, Nick (Chelsea), and Tyler Deitering.  Don had 3 grandchildren; Kelly (Ari) Foster, William Collins, and Emma Hieber; 2 great-grandchildren; Oliver and Eloise Foster.

Visitation and funeral services will be held St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 7710 East State Blvd., Fort Wayne, Indiana.  
Visitation will be held Thursday, August 31st from 2:00 – 7:00 PM.
Funeral services will take place Friday, September 1st, 2023 at 11:00 AM with calling at 10:00 AM prior to the service. Pastor Steve Ahlersmeyer will officiate the funeral service.
