Dorothy May Gilmore, age 79, of Fort Wayne, passed away August 27, 2024, at Stillwater Hospice. Mrs. Gilmore was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana on October 6, 1944, to the late Wilmer and Margaret (Thompson) Harmeyer. She married Gary G. Gilmore on October 1, 1965, in Fort Wayne. Gary preceded her in death on June 1, 2019. Dorothy helped prepare nutritious meals for the children at Holy Cross Lutheran School. After Holy Cross, Dorothy spent many years caring for children in many locations including Suburban Bethlehem Lutheran Church where she was a member.
Survivors include:
Daughter, Ginger and Adam Gable of Fort Wayne.
Son, Tyler Gilmore of Fort Wayne.
Three grandchildren: Gwendolyn and Paul Carmen of Terre Haute; Michael Gilmore of Fort Wayne; and Sylvia Gable of Fort Wayne.
Three great grandchildren: Dominic Gable, Lili Ridder, and Scarlett Carmen.
Sister-in-law, Jonnee Harmeyer Ensley of Rome City.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Wilmer and Margaret Harmeyer; son, Gerrod Gilmore; daughter-in-law, Angie Gilmore; brother, Dale Harmeyer; and a sister and brother-in-law, Robert and Charlotte Hilgenkamp.
Visitation will be held Friday, September 6th from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at Suburban Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 6318 California Road, Fort Wayne.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 10:30 AM at Suburban Bethlehem Lutheran Church with visitation at 9:30 AM prior to the service. Pastor Alex Duff will officiate the funeral service.
Burial will follow at Covington Memorial Gardens.
Memorial donations may be made to Suburban Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
