Eddie Allen Ransom, 83, of Avilla, passed away June 19, 2022, at Parkview Regional Medical Center (Fort Wayne, IN). Eddie was born in Dekalb County, Indiana on May 1, 1939, the son of Daniel S. Ransom and Alma E. (Bartell) Ransom. On December 6, 1957, he married his wife of 64 ½ years, Gailanna R. Holman.
He belonged to Avilla Calvary United Methodist Church. He was a Mason with Masonic Lodge #460 of Avilla, IN and a Shriner with the Mizpah Shrine. He was a long-time member of the Avilla Lions Club for whom he enjoyed working the food booth at the Noble County Fairgrounds.
He graduated from Riverdale High School (St. Joe, IN) in 1957. He started out working for his father at the Spencerville Feed Elevator. He farmed cows, pigs, and 1,200 layer chickens in Leo, IN. He hauled gas for Standard Oil, hauled canned milk for County Line Cheese, and hauled bulk milk for Allen Dairy in Ft. Wayne, IN. He sold livestock feed for MoorMan’s for over fifteen years and was nationally recognized in the Top 100 Salesmen Club. He was a truck driver for C & A Transport, accompanied by his wife for five years. He then hauled gravel for many years up until retirement. He farmed his entire life and truly enjoyed caring for livestock.
In retirement, Eddie and his wife wintered in LaBelle, FL for 21 years. He enjoyed motorcycle riding and traveling around the U.S. He enjoyed spending time with family. He was very proud of all of his children and grandchildren. His joking and ornery personality never dimmed. He will be missed by his loved ones.
In addition to his wife Gailanna, he is survived by his five children: Roxanne (Kenneth) Fike, Avilla, IN; Ronald (Cynthia) Ransom, Floyds Knobs, IN; Rochelle (Gary) Herge, Troutdale, OR; Rolissa (Mark) Underwood, N. Manchester, IN; and Roland (Susan) Ransom, Thompson, MO. He is also survived by his siblings: Dennis (Alice) Ransom, Auburn, IN; Curtis Ransom, Spencerville, IN; and Cheryl (Ron) Clark, Auburn, IN. His legacy continues with his twelve grandchildren:  Andrew (Joy)Fike, Matthew Fike, Natalie Herge, Nicole Herge, Katie (Aaron) Snover, Neil (Mariah) Underwood, Amanda (Spencer) Mahan, Austin Underwood, Lauren (Josh) Cole, Brooke Ransom, Cora Ransom and Keith Ransom.  Also five great-grandchildren:  Henry Fike (Matthew), Blayke Snover, Alba Underwood, Clisby Underwood, and Ruth Cole.  Baby Snover arriving soon.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Roger Ransom.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 26, 2022, from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at Hite Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be on Monday, June 27, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Calvary United Methodist Church in Avilla with a visitation 1 hour prior to the service with Rev. Jim Kemerly and Rev. Ronald Storms officiating.
Burial will take place at Alton Cemetery in Saint Joe.
Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, Shriners Children’s Hospital and Avilla Calvary United Methodist Church.
