Edith Gaynell VanDoorn, age 80, of Fort Wayne, died September 12, 2020 at home. Mrs. VanDoorn was born in West Dante, Virginia on September 6, 1940 to the late Rev. Bascom Slemp “Bass” Herndon and Virgie Ethel (Williams) Herndon. She married David Lee VanDoorn on March 30, 1974 in Fort Wayne, Indiana and he preceded her in death on September 22, 2018. Edith was employed with General Electric, Aircraft division, Fort Wayne. 

Survivors include:
Son, Raleigh and Naz Horne of Coldwater, Michigan.
Daughter, Deborah Flotow of Fort Wayne.
Daughter, Donna and Dale Hanley of Fort Wayne.
Son, Danny and Norma VanDoorn of Uniondale.
14 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
Sister, Gladys Beaver of Abbington, Virginia.
Brother, Clyde Herndon of Holgate, Ohio.
Brother, John and Carol Herndon of Mendota, Virginia.
Brother, James Herndon of Oswego, Illinois.
Sister, Janice and Martin Kelley of Montgomery, Illinois.
Sister, Geraldine and Gordon Sirotek of Nokomis, Florida.
Sister, Lorrain and Terry Bryan of Aurora, Illinois.
Sister, Rebecca Herndon of Castlewood, Virginia.
Sister, Barbara and Ken Rowe of Cortland, Illinois.
Sister-in-law, Lola Herndon of Coeburn, Virginia.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, David; sons, David VanDoorn, II and Rodney Horne; and brother, Ray Herndon. 

Services will be held Friday, September 18, 2020 at 1:00 PM at Hite Funeral Home, 403 South Main Street, Kendallville with visitation prior to the service from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM.
Burial will follow at Prairie Grove Cemetery, Fort Wayne.
Arrangements entrusted to Hite Funeral Home.
