Eugene Warren “Gene” Lash, age 86, died Thursday, October 4, 2018 at his home in Kendallville.  Mr. Lash was born in Kendallville, Indiana on January 30, 1932 to the late Kenneth Francis Lash and Gertrude Sarah (Schmuck) Arnold.  He was a United States Army veteran honorably serving his country from 1952 – 1954.  He married Phyllis Jane Smith on January 28, 1955 at St. John Lutheran Church in Kendallville.  Gene owned and operated Gene W. Lash Excavating for 21 years and worked alongside his brother, Kenny at K. Lash & Sons.  Later he was a truck driver for No-Sag, Trailer Express, Kidd Company, and Kraft Foods before retiring in 2002.  He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, American Legion Post 86, Elks Lodge and past member of the Kendallville Lions Club and Masonic Lodge. 

Survivors include:
Wife of 63 years, Phyllis Lash of Kendallville.
Daughter, Cheryl and Keith Ellert of Waldron Lake, Rome City.
Son, Randy Lash of Kendallville.
Daughter, Janie and Doug Shull of Massillon, Ohio.
Son, Kristopher and Sherry Lash of Middlebury.
Daughter, Michelle and Kent Yoder of New Paris.
15 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Sister, LaVinn “Vinnie” Hyland of Kendallville.
Sister-in-law, Ellen Lash of Kendallville.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother-in-law, Sheila and Bill Gage; brothers, Lee Lash and Kenneth Lash.

Visitation will be Sunday, October 7, 2018 from 1:00 – 4:00 PM at Hite Funeral Home.
A funeral service with military honors will be held Sunday at 4:00 PM at Hite Funeral Home with Pastor Randy Glander of St. John Lutheran Church officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to St. John Lutheran School for tuition assistance.
