Gus Nagy Obituary

Augustus “Gus” Rudolph Nagy, 96, surrendered his spirit to the Lord, Saturday, June 18, 2022.  God’s Love sustained Gus all through his life.  Patriotic Love for his country. Family Love with his wife of 62 years. Love for his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and beloved friends.  

Gus was born August 28, 1925 in Ashland, West Virginia , to the late Mary (Seles) & Michael Nagy, Sr. 

Augustus served in the U.S. Army in WWII.  He proudly trained with the 20th Armored Infantry Division; assigned to the 8th Armored Infantry Battalion as an Expert Light Machine Gunner. He liberated Dachau Concentration Camp.

Bragging rights rules in 1975 as the “Nagy Chinchilla Ranch” was awarded the National Grand Show Champion at the Empress Chinchilla Breeders Association in Nashville, Tennessee.

He retired from Food Marketing Super Value after 42 years of service.

He is survived by

son, Matthew Nagy

daughter, Laura Nagy-Couch

daughter, Mary Gatton

daughter, Catherine Mowry

daughter, Julia Rhoades

daughter in law, Sue Nagy

13 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren. 

Papa loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He delighted in wearing a “red nose reindeer” nose on Christmas Eve. He will forever be in our hearts.

He was preceded in death by his Indian Princess and devoted wife, Catherine M. (Strack) Nagy, in 2013; son, Christopher Nagy; siblings, Edith Winiarczyk, Rose, Sherrie, Ann Schwartz, Steven, Adolph, Michael Jr., and John Nagy.

Visitation will be Wednesday, June 22, 2022 from 2-4 & 6-8:30 p.m., at St. Patrick Catholic Church hall, 12305 Arcola Road in Fort Wayne, with a rosary at 6 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, June 23, 2022 at 10:30 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 12305 Arcola Road in Fort Wayne, with calling also one hour prior to the service. Officiating will be Fr. Cyril Fernandes and Fr. Vince Wirtner.

He will be laid to rest St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery with military honors.

Preferred memorials may be made to the church, Honor Flight Northeast Indiana or Veterans Memorial Shrine.
