Herman Perry Preston, age 82, of Kendallville, passed away August 4, 2025, at his residence. Herman was born in Tutor Key, Kentucky, on June 5, 1943, to the late Claude and Fannie Preston. He honorably served his country in the United States Navy from 1962-1966. He was previously married to Lisa Warner and Judith Patrick. He later married Anna Marie (Wirick) Richter Preston in 2009. Anna preceded him in death on March 3, 2024. Herman was a car salesman. He enjoyed playing golf, traveling around the country, going on cruises, and spending time with his friends. He was a member of the VFW Post 2749, American Legion Post 86, Moose, Eagles and Elks Lodges. He loved his dog, Maggie.
Survivors include:
Son, Ty and Hattie Preston of Columbia City.
Son, Christopher Preston of Marion.
Son, Rodney Preston of Fort Wayne.
Daughter, Deva Betts of Fort Wayne.
Grandchildren: Logan, Alex, Miranda, Realeen, and Jasmine; also granddaughter, Anna Smith of Fremont and two great granddaughters, Alexis and Bentley.
Stepson, Ron and Nancy Richter of Rome City and their two sons, Ronald Richter and Nathan Richter.
There will be a celebration of life gathering at the American Legion Post 86 in Kendallville on Wednesday, August 20, 2024 from 5:00-7:00 PM with military honors conducted at 5:30 PM.
