John Nathan Clifton, age 88, of Kendallville, passed away at home on September 3, 2024. John was born in Steuben County near Angola, Indiana on April 18, 1936, to the late Ray Lyle Clifton and Mary Leoris (Colbart) Clifton. He graduated from Flint High School, Flint, Indiana. He married Janet Sue (Spero) Clifton on December 8, 1967, in Waterloo, Indiana. Early on, John was employed for 19 years as a lineman with various power companies including Steuben County REMC, American Electric Power and other contractors. Later he moved onto keeping the books for Weiss Trucking Company in Mongo for the next 29 years. John is also well known in the area for his own private tree trimming and lawn care business which he operated for 40 years. He also delivered vehicles for Tom Shepherd Automotive. He was a member of the Wayne Center United Methodist Church for 52 years, where he held many offices including Chairman of the Board, Trustee Committee and Sunday School teacher. He was also a member of the Kendallville Lions Club for 36 years. He coached Little League Baseball and was a Webelo Scout leader. John never knew a stranger. He always had a positive attitude and was eternally optimistic. John was loved deeply, and he will be greatly missed.

Daughter, Karen and Bruce Stopher of Harlan.
Son, Bob and Brenda Ulch of Kendallville.
Son, Jason Clifton of Kendallville.
Grandchildren: John Dillon of Huntertown, Maggie Dillon of Fort Wayne, Cody Stopher of Harlan, Jennifer and Kevin Elrod of Harlan, Ryan and Hailey Ulch of Roanoke, and Olivia Ulch of Fort Wayne.
Great grandchildren: Makenna Dillon of Fort Wayne, Knixon Dillon of Fort Wayne, Colton Stopher of Harlan, and Shiloh Ulch of Roanoke.
Sister, Lyn and Lonnie Blanchard of Battle Creek, Michigan.
Sister-in-law, Ginger Clifton of Laotto.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Mary Clifton; sister and brother-in-law, Annalee and Jack Groosbeck; sister, Nancy Clifton; brother, David Clifton; son, Ronald Ulch; and daughter, Kim Dillon.
Visitation will be held Sunday, September 8th from 2:00 - 6:00 PM at Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville.
Funeral services will be held Monday, September 9, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Hite Funeral Home. Rev. Ken Walker and Rev. Gene Flickinger will officiate the service.
Burial will follow at East Springfield Cemetery, LaGrange County. Casket bearers will be his grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made to Wayne Center United Methodist Church or Kendallville Lions Club.
