John Hugh Tipton passed away in his home on the morning of August 8, 2012 at the age of 83.  John was born in Albion, Indiana on December 15, 1928.  John was the eldest son of Edward C. and Ogden (Morr) Tipton, and he was delivered into this world by his grandfather, Dr. John W. Morr of Albion.

John was a lifetime resident of Noble County and graduated from Albion-Jefferson High School with the class of 1946.  After a brief stint with the Boston Braves, John returned to Albion and married his High School sweetheart, Gwendlyn I. Berkes on June 26, 1949 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.

Along with his father, John owned and operated the Albion Cement Block factory in the early 1950’s.  John then proceeded to work as a Purchasing Manager with various local companies until he retired from Handy and Harmon in 1993.

John enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping and was a loyal Cubs, Packers and Hoosier basketball fan.  John’s favorite pastime was watching his sons and grandkids participate in and coach various sports.  Above all, John cherished the time that he was able to spend with his family.

Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Gwen and sons, Stan and Mary Tipton of Albion; Trevor and Debbie of Kendallville and Tracy and Julia of Kendallville; a sister, Lois Jean Kelly of Kendallville and a sister-in-law, Kathy Tipton of Churubusco.
