Naida Selma MacDermid, age 86, of Roanoke and Fort Wayne, died Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Woodview Assisted Living, Fort Wayne. Mrs. MacDermid was born in Middleboro, Massachusetts on November 9, 1932 to the late Eugene John Graebner and Helen (Barnes) Graebner. She received a bachelor’s degree from Florida State University in 1954 and a Masters of music education degree from Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana. She married Mack Alfred Walker in Shreveport, Louisiana and he preceded her in death in 1985. She later married Blair MacDermid and he preceded her in death as well in 1999. Naida was a music teacher with Southwest Allen County Schools and later became a respiratory therapist. As an accomplished musician and performed with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic for 51 years. She traveled the world and volunteered constantly while investing in other’s lives. She was a member of Trinity English Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne and loved collie dogs, playing Bridge, and taking care of others.
Survivors include:
Daughter, Susan Arney of Fort Wayne.
Daughter, Carol Carlson and Chris Oberkiser of Avilla.
Son, John Walker of Albion.
7 grandchildren: Richard (Ashley) Arney of Roann, Indiana; Vanessa Arney of Fort Wayne; Christy Barbour of Fort Wayne; Tiffany Barbour of Lakehead, California; Lindsay (Nate) Stayback of Avilla; Jillian Carlson of Avilla; and Rachael Carlson of Avilla. 7 great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her only sister, Jeanne Graebner.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 15th from 4:00 – 6:00 PM at Presence Sacred Heart Home, 515 North Main Street, Avilla, Indiana.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at 1:30 PM at Trinity English Lutheran Church, 450 West Washington Blvd., Fort Wayne, Indiana with visitation one hour prior to the funeral service. The Rev. Dr. Gary Erdos will officiate the service.
Burial will take place at Covington Memorial Gardens.
