Phyllis Lucille Nichols, age 95, of Kendallville, passed away November 7, 2023 at Parkview Dekalb Hospital, Auburn, Indiana. Mrs. Nichols was born in Santa Monica, California on May 23, 1928 to the late Harmon Howard Skiles and Edna Lucille (Farling) Skiles. She graduated from Kendallville High School in 1946 and was employed by the Northeastern Center, Kendallville for 23 years before retiring in 1995. Phyllis was an avid reader and wrote several romance novel manuscripts. One book, A Thousand Errors, was published by Manor books. She enjoyed flowers, playing bingo and eating chocolates and sweets. She liked eating out instead of cooking and really liked Logans and Texas Roadhouse. She adored her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved her cats and had several over the years, KIKI, Ebby, and Gilley to name few with Scooter being the last.

Son, Daniel and Jozy Nichols of Fort Wayne.
Daughter, Deborah and Kim Shoup of Angola.
Daughter, Andrea Brand of Garrett.
Son, Christopher and Jennifer Nichols of Auburn.
Daughter, Mary and Steve Herendeen of Leo.
18 grandchildren: Tyler Nichols, Sam Shoup, Anna Shoup, Lindsay Bowman, Dustan Herendeen, Drew Herendeen, Sarah Ayrers, Meagan McCosh, Cailin McCosh, Rose McCosh, David McCosh, Michael Henry, Melissa Henry, Mandy Garber, Melinda Delashmit, Mistia Henry, Charity Lewis, and Krista Esslionger and 28 great grandchildren.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Harmon and Edna Skiles; son, Michael Henry; brother, Thomas Skiles (1999); sister, Mary Parker (2023); and a grandson, Joshua Boots.
There will be a gathering of family and friends to celebrate the life of Phyllis Nichols on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at Vineyard Christian Fellowship, 705 Kelly Street extended, Rome City from 2:00-4:00PM. There will be a meal served following the gathering and celebration time. Memorial donations may be made to Noble County Humane Society, Common Grace or New Hope Clubhouse. Arrangements entrusted to Hite Funeral Home, Kendallville.
