Richard DeWayne Kunce, age 87, of rural Kendallville, passed away Friday, May 9, 2025, at his home with his family by his side. Mr. Kunce was born in a farmhouse in Steuben County near Angola, Indiana on February 4, 1938, to the late Clair William Kunce and Jeanette (Rawles) Kunce. He graduated from Flint High School in Steuben County in 1956. Richard married Sharon Ann Pepple on November 21, 1959, at Cedar Lake Church of the Brethren near Corunna in Dekalb County. Sharon preceded him in death December 13, 2014. Richard honorably served his country for five years in the Army National Guard. He was a lifelong farmer and livestock and milk hauler. Richard and Sharon enjoyed traveling the country together.
Survivors include:
Daughter, Marcia and Terry McKee of Hudson.
Daughter, Karen Kunce of LaGrange.
Six grandchildren: Kelli and Calvin Leiter of Port Saint Lucie, Florida; Jason and Jennifer Richards of St. Joe; Amber Riddle of Wolcottville; Jackie McKee of Ashley; Jenna Easterday of Kendallville; and Tyler McKee of Hudson. Seven great grandchildren also survive.
Sister, Bonnie Bryan of Fort Wayne.
Two half-brothers, LeRoy Kunce and Roy and Judy Kunce both of Angola.
Sister-in-law, Sandra Kunce of Angola.
Son-in-law, Ron Richards of Bronson, Michigan.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Clair and Jeanette Kunce; his wife, Sharon Kunce; a daughter, Connie Richards, who died November 5, 2009; son-in-law, Don Bish, who died January 22, 2022; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Margaret and Robert Rupp and Marcille and William Juif; sisters, Betty Derrow and Wilda Shepherd; brother, Lee Kunce; and brother-in-law, Robert Bryan.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 13th, from 3:00 - 7:00 PM at Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Hite Funeral Home with Pastor Regan Ford officiating.
Burial with military honors will follow at Orange Cemetery near Rome City. Casket bearers will be Richard's grandsons.
