Roger Lynn Longyear, 77 of rural Kendallville, IN passed away on May 24, 2024, at the Longyear Homestead after eleven and a half years of battling cancer. Roger was born May 17, 1947 to Charles H. Longyear and Arlene L. (Smith) Longyear in Kendallville, who preceded him in death.
Roger graduated from Kendallville High School in 1965 and attended Ball State. He was a long-time dairy farmer, then later in life received his auctioneer and real estate license. On March 5, 1967, he married Beckie Ann (Krauter) Longyear. The majority of his life he was a dairy and crop farmer as well as volunteering on many county boards and committees over his lifetime. He is remembered fondly for his time and dedication with Noble County 4-H. His hobbies included antique cars, race cars, tractors, fixing old houses, bowling and watching his grand kids play sports and show livestock in 4H.
Roger is survived by his wife Beckie of 57 years, along with 3 daughters and a son that all reside in Noble County: Leslie Ann (John) Wechter, Stacey Lynette DeLong, Laura Lyn (Laramy) Freed, and Ryan Roger (Jessica) Longyear. He was a proud grandpa to grandchildren: Carlene (Cody) Riecke, Luke (Hannah) Wechter, Kyler (Mataya) Warble, Kaylen Warble, Ethan Freed, Noah Longyear, Alayna DeLong, Caleb Freed, Jacob Freed, Avalynn DeLong, Emmaline Freed, Levi Wechter, Roger Jay Longyear, and 3 step-grandchildren; Kaylee Petersen, Kara & Colton Kemp; 5 great grandchildren: Craylor & Cora Riecke, Kyler Jr. & Miles Warble, and Brenna Wechter. He is also survived by his 2 sisters, Nancy Maher and Sharol (Ron) Cloud, father-in-law, Halden Krauter.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, from 4:00 - 8:00pm at Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville.
Funeral services will take place at Hite Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at 11:00am with an hour visitation prior to service.
Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Kendallville.
Memorials may be made to Wayne Center United Methodist Church or Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana.
