Ruth Ruby (Uhl) Prentice, age 93, of rural Kendallville, passed away on Monday, January 13, 2025, at Astral at Auburn, Auburn, Indiana. Mrs. Prentice was born at home on Baseline Road near Avilla, Indiana on September 19, 1931, to the late Clarence Albert "Penny" Uhl and Ruby I. (Myers) Uhl. Ruth graduated from Avilla High School in 1950. She began working at Kraft Foods in Kendallville for three years and married Wallace Eugene Prentice on January 31, 1953, at Zion Lutheran Church near Corunna. Wally preceded her in death June 20, 2020. After her children were raised and in school, Ruth went back to work at Kraft Foods for another 10 years. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Avilla.
Survivors include:
Daughter, Gloria and Gary McDonald of Rome City.
Daughter, Kathleen Dirr of Kendallville.
Daughter, Cynthia Prentice and Jeff Stine of Ossian.
Daughter, Marsha Gienger of Kendallville.
Four grandchildren: Jeffrey and Kelley McDonald of Fort Wayne; Anne Mossman of Rome City; Jason and Colin Gienger-Hindman of Indianapolis; Jordan Gienger and Andrew Fry of Auburn.
Two step-grandchildren: Gary Lynn and Tuyen McDonald, II of Albion and Patrick McDonald of Syracuse.
Three great grandchildren: Aedyn Mossman, Ahriana Mossman, and Jameson McDonald. Four step-great grandchildren: Tina McDonald, Christian McDonald, Breanna McDonald and Khloe McDonald.
Sister, DeLoris Peacock of Kendallville.
Sisters-in-law, Patty Uhl of Nashville, Tennessee and Rosemary Uhl of Godfrey, Illinois.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Ruby Uhl; her husband of 67 years, Wally Prentice; infant daughter, Peggy Sue Prentice; son-in-law, Gene Dirr; sister and brother-in-law, Edith and Joe Whonsetler; brother, Floyd Uhl; brother and sister-in-law, Lloyd and Donna Uhl; and brother, Paul Uhl.
Visitation will be held Sunday, January 19, 2025, from 2:00 - 5:00 PM at Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 20, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Avilla. Pastor Patrick Kuhlman will officiate the funeral service. There will be visitation at 10:00 AM prior to the funeral.
Burial will follow at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Jason Gienger-Hindman, Jordan Gienger, Jeff McDonald, Gary Lynn McDonald, II, Lowell Prentice, and Brian Fortman.
